It is a common practice that the media is bombarded with news of disasters, horror and malpractices. While some may consider this as an accepted way of doing by the media, I strongly believe more good news should be included in the news coverage.

More coverage of good news certainly generates some benefits. Firstly, good news is more constructive in promoting kindness and positive energy in society. Compared to news of murder, earthquake and air pollution, news coverage of kindness, discovery and innovation is more likely to have positive psychological benefits on news-readers and it shall encourage more people to do more good deeds. Secondly, it may benefit the media by making more benefits. The existing news media is flooded with the kind of news like natural disasters, political corruption, etc.. The audience or reader, therefore, are getting tired of reading news, which means low audience rating and hence low profits for the news agency. However, if the news agency change their common practices and report more good news, it is more likely their audience rating will change for the better.

Granted, newspaper and TV broadcasters reporting more news about disaster, corruption may have their reasons. People tend to be more interested in disasters or other bad news, provided it is not happened on themselves and the news agency tend to exploit on the fact. However, the news agency should fulfill their responsibilities and guide the reader or audience for the better.

In conclusion, the media should try to abandon their normal practices and experiment with reporting more good news. I am sure the media will be surprised at the response of the audience and readers.
