It is often argued that money and time spent on animal preservation should be reduced and instead spent on the human population. From my point of view, however, animals are equally important as the human race, and they deserve fair treatment and protection from us.
Firstly, I believe it is safe to say that animals inhabited the earth long before human beings. In fact, the entire ecosystem on earth is basically built with animals being an integral part of this intricate system. Unfortunately, in the past few thousand years of human existence, the natural habitats of wildlife have been damaged at an alarming rate, which has caused the decline and ultimately the extinction of many animal species. Therefore, in order to rehabilitate the ecosystem, we must dedicate time and money to reviving some of the natural habitats of endangered animals.
Secondly, humans are also actively killing wildlife for their own benefits. Without the protection from numerous non-profit organizations dedicated to animal preservation, many animal species would have been wiped out and ceased to exist on this planet. I believe humans are a superior race that has the ability to take care of themselves, while the survival of animals will depend largely on our ability to protect them. So for the sake of making this planet a better place to live, we must support such organizations to carry on their work, which requires coordinating, volunteering and most important of all, funding.
It is true that there are many issues that we face as human beings, such as poverty, famine and pandemics. However, I do not agree that humans deserve special treatment due to the reasons stated above.
