It is more important for teachers to help students gain self-confidence than to teach students specific knowledge. (反对)且B>A

With the fierce competition within the market and society today, education is being one of the most important considerations for both the students and their parents. Many parents believe that as much important as teachers teaching students specific knowledge is, helping students gain self-confidence is more important. However, as far as I am concerned, specific knowledge is of more significance because it is the prerequisite when it comes to gaining self-confidence.

Admittedly, one of the most crucial jobs of a teacher is to help students gain self-confidence because students are young and naïve, they need more help to build up their confidence in order to step into the real world after graduation from their various of institutes. For example, a student with no self-confidence or little self-confidence may encounter many problems when they enter society. They will face a lot of interviews, job fairs, speeches, presentations and so on that require their confidence to speak and perform in front of a lot people. Without confidence, they may lose a lot of important opportunities when they are working.

However, I believe that teaching students specific knowledge should be as much as important if not more crucial than helping students gain self-confidence since one is the prerequisite of the other. When students are loaded with all kinds of knowledge required for their work or for their exams, they tend to be more confident than students with less specific knowledge because knowledge is power, the more knowledge the students acquired, the more powerful they may get. For example, if the student understands the concept of public speech, he or she would have been more confident than those of students with less specific knowledge about public speech, as a result, they are more likely to be successful in the future.

In conclusion, although it is important for teachers to help their students gain self-confidence because a confident student is more likely to be granted with success in the future, it is no more important than teaching them knowledge. Because when a student learns enough of the knowledge, he or she will be confident enough to take on the job or compete with others in this real-life society.
